The “Anatomy of the Piano” may also be used as a reference book. For example under the heading “Hammer” will be found a short account of how the piano hammer developed and how felt covering replaced the leather covering of the hammers of the 18th and early 19th centuries. The names of individual parts are arranged in alphabetical order and are cross referenced where more than one term is used for the same part or where the function of one part can only be understood in relation to another.
